Reflection on our field trip to Lal Bogh

Grade 5 went to a field trip to Lal Bogh on Thursday 24th April 2008. We saw lots and lots of trees. Miss Roopa guided all of us. We did lots of fun activities except that lots of people were allergic to something there, which was why they didn’t enjoy as much as others did.
Miss Roopa showed and told us about seven different trees: Peeple, Ficus Mysorensis, White Silk Cotton, Sita Ashoka, Sausage Tree, Chicken Pox Tree and Krishna’s Buttercup. In the notebook that Miss Roopa had given us, we wrote down the things we learnt and noticed about each tree, as well as how we will remember it and what we would name it. We even bark rubbed the Chicken Pox Tree so we could see the chicken pox-like buttons clearly on the paper.
Then we played a game where we were in groups of 5 or 6 and searched for names of countries that some trees came from. The team which gets the most wins. The team who won got 17 countries.
We also smelled Leaves that smelled like lemon and mint on our way. After a while we sat down and in total silence, we wrote what we heard: Cicada (insect that makes noise by rubbing its legs together), music, people talking & laughing, horns of cars, birds singing, airplanes, wind and people’s footsteps.
Next, we saw a banyan tree that strangled another tree by going around it. Then everybody started to ask for Miss Roopa’s autograph.
We went to an enormous tree and everybody climbed up and down. That was really fun. After enough playtimes, we all grouped together on the tree and Miss Roopa, our class teachers, and us talked about how global warming is connected to trees and nature. Then we went home.

Our trip to Lalbagh

On 24th of april (thursday) we went for afield trip to Lalbagh. We had a kind of guide named Ms.Roopa. First when everyone arrived we sat on a mountain kind of rock which was a volcanoe about 3 billion years old. that was the time when dinosaurs existed! Then we left from there and went to the peepal's tree, the fig tree etc. Later we went to the biggest tree in Lalbagh and all of us climbed the tree. Then we had a disscussion near the tree. After this we went back to the place where we started (the volcanoe place).
My reflection
I like this field trip very much because we discovered many things that I wasn't aware of. I had gone to Lalbagh many times but this time I liked it because I was with my friends and we did some research together etc. We had lots of fun though we were all exosted.

Field Trip to Lalbagh

Today grade 5 went for a field trip to LalBagh. LalBagh was founded nearly 250 years ago by Hyder Ali.
We looked at different trees and wrote down several things about the tree in our nature notebooks we got. All the trees we saw were very unique and unusual in their own ways. There was a Cypress Garden, the story behind the Cypress Garden was that Tipu Sultan(son of Hyder Ali) used to ask people to bring to him lots of different plants and trees from different parts of the world to plant in LalBagh.
We went to that garden and were asked to get in to groups of 5, we went around the Cypress Garden and looked for the contries name from which the plant was from. There was lots of places like: China, Africa, Malaysia, Japan, Mexico etc.

We went to LalBagh to see all the plants and trees in terms of how they protect our Earth from Global Warming. Overall I liked the field trip and it was intresting to learn about how trees protect our Earth and not only that we got to learn about all the different trees that grow in the world.

grade 5's feild trip to lalbagh

today gr5 went on a feild trip to a place called lal bagh. we were going n a trail from a company from bangalore walks.the bus picked me up at villa del mar. it came 1hour late!! me and ana waited there for 1hour and 15mins. eventually the bus came and we got on. the people already in there told us the bus that was supposed to come never arrived and they had to get a new one! anyway, the bus ride was really fun. i sat with ruchi. after 35 minutes, we reached lalbagh. when we got there we said hi to the people who were already there. then we got these cool, free
eco-friendly bags with pouchs and nature notebooks. we sat on a enourmous rock which used to be a volcnao and talked to our guide about plants. this got kind of boring at times so i just talked to ruchi. finally we started exploring the different trees in lalbagh. we noted down stuf in our notebooks. i was alergic to some trees in lalbagh and i felt sick so i did not participate to much. i just stayed with ms.mohua. at the end we got to climb a huge tree:the biggest in lal bagh. the nurse who accompanied us told me not too because i might be allergic but it looked really fun so i climed it anyway. then our guide made us reflect. it was really boring. the trip was ok. i liked the bus ride better.

PYP Exhibition

In grade 5A we are preparing for the PYP Exhibition by firstly deciding our topics. Mine is drugs. As usual we started by making a unit title(which we got to decide on our own) and then a central idea and lastly five or six inquiry points. We got to decide how we want to present the information. We had different options. We chose to do a skit with a message . DON'T TAKE DRUGS. For our individual work we have each chosen to do our own separate drugs. I chose to do crystal meth which is a type of drug. Which is a drug that is usually somed in glass pipes. It is prescribed in very, very small quantity by doctors for weight loss but some people take too much and start to look demented. We will make some posters, powerpoints, etc. too explain. I chose to do drugs because I thought it would be a very interesting topic to learn about. And it is!

pyp exhibition: the begining

when miss poonam told us about the pyp exhibition everyone was excited that we would get to conduct our own uoi topic doing everything by ourselves central idea, inquirery points... the usual stuff. we started by going to the av room with 5b and were given pieces of paper to write all the burning issues in the world and pick what you think is most important and why you think so. i chose pollution because pollution causes global warming which most people chose. in the end we split up in three groups
  1. polltuion and global warming
  2. drugs
  3. save the animals

i am in the pollution and global warming group. our central idea is: 'global warming is a serious threat to the earth and it is our responsibility to stop pollution in order to prevent global warming and save our planet.' in our classroom since there were lots of people in my group we split up into three other groups. i am in a group with zoish, alex, jere, faizan and shahajii.

preparing for the exibition is hard work, but really fun too!!
