Global Peace

As we speak the world has many problems. Wars, hunger and poverty amongst other things go on and on. Our topic today is how to bring global peace to our planet. Lets talk in detail about the problems that are preventing world peace.

WARS: There are many kinds of conflicts. The worst type is armed conflicts. (Wars with weapon such as guns and bombs). Us global citizens get into fights easily and often use armed conflicts. Some countries go even as far as using nuclear weapons, which can destroy thousands of innocent lives. A single conflict can make a huge war.

RELIGION: Many people fight for their religion. This is very sad because many people die as a result of worthless fighting. People use their religion to use force and fight against other religions or countries. For example, Israel and Palestine (Jews and Muslims) have been fighting for a long time. Many innocent people are killed. Religion also creates religious fanatics and people become what we call “terrorists”. A terrorist kills many people like soldiers. However unlike the soldier he/she kill unarmed and helpless citizens who cannot fight back. Their targets are places like urban buildings and public transport systems.

GREED AND POWER: Some large developed countries such as United States and Great Britain take over smaller countries like Iraq because the smaller countries do not have large defense systems and can thus be easily defeated. The larger countries take over the country’s government and rich natural resources and become more powerful. For example the United States took over Iraq and killed its ruler Saddam Hussein. At the present moment in Iraq it’s a big muddle with everyone fighting each other and no one really ruling the country. The US army is there to curb the violence however this fighting seems to go one without any signs of peace. Day by day with more bombings Iraq’s infrastructure is getting from bad to worse.

NATURAL CATASTROPHE / DISASTER: There are lots of natural disasters in this world. Tsunamis, floods, droughts, famines and many more. These unwanted catastrophes cause people to lose a lot of their belongings and they become poor overnight. This leads to anger, frustration and aggression. For example the everlasting drought in Ethiopia or the Tsunami disaster in South East Asia has caused many people to lose their lives and the survivors live as refugees.

POVERTY: There is lots of poverty in this world. For example in my recent trip to Bombay, I saw thousands of tiny and scruffy little homes made of tin and mud where many poor families live. Its unfortunate that these little homes have no bathrooms but provide only shelter from bad weather. These homes are called slums. Poverty creates death and disease. It also creates fights and robbery because of hunger, frustration and anger.

SOME SOLUTIONS:

All these problems are so very sad and unfortunate and we must together do something to make this world a better place. For some of the problems above we must seek help of the United Nations before its too late. Rulers of countries should stick to ruling their own country instead of taking over others. Instead of raging independent wars we must consult with the United Nations. Terrorists must be brought to justice by being given the highest punishment. The rich should make more donations to the poor and help change a few lives in their own special way. Giving time towards charity (community service) can be very rewarding and makes a big difference. We can also try to talk our conflicts out instead of fighting. It’s much easier and saves many lives. When natural disasters happen we should feel empathy and volunteer our time to the affected areas. We should also donate old clothes, money and food to these areas or go through the Red Cross.

These are a few ways that we can make this world a much better place to live in. So lets get to work and do what we can.
