Grade 4 are in the process of beginning our new unit of inquiry titled Heroes and Sheroes . We have already discussed the difference between being famous and being a hero. We made a good beginning by watching the movie on the life of Mother Teresa and my students were really touched by the condition of the thousands of homeless and sick, children and elderly who were and are continually being helped by the Missionaries of Charity.
One of the great things about this unit is that not only will the students of my class learn to respect and appreciate great men and women of the past and present times but will understand that they have a responsibility to support others in the community and that they too can strive to make a difference in the lives of others and become heroes and sheroes.
I hope to achieve ,by the end of this unit , one of the principal goals of the IBPYP which is to DEVELOP IN STUDENTS THE CAPACITY TO FUNCTION AS CARING AND RESPONSIBLE INTERNATIONAL CITIZENS.
