Reflection on math
I like the math classes we get in Indus. We learn more and more. And it is fun. We even take tests that come from a 6th to 9th graders book and it is easy.
Strength-
I am pretty good at most of the subjects like decimals, ratio, addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentage, area and perimeter, and so on.
Weakness-
I still need to improve in a little bit of fractions, and I have to try and avoid making silly mistakes in tests, because that’s what I do a lot which lowers my marks. So I will check the test paper at least once in the next math test I do.

Reflection - how we started
As I can remember, we first were teaching each other and learning from the board, the PYP profiles, the attitudes, the concepts, the skills, etc. and all those important things that we should know by now. Then I guess we decided the performences we'll do: dance, drama play, etc. After that, we shared good sites we found during laptop time. And then we were deciding the Theme, Unit Title, Central Idea, and inquiry points. We really struggled a lot to make the central idea as we had to come up with a good one. And we came up with a lovely central idea. Next we wrote individualy "How best might we learn" and the timeline/plan. Then was what I want to learn. We were then making our questions following the concepts. We kept on including things in our folder (the answers of our individual questions) until Earth Day came and we brought news about it and helped the Earth. After more days passed, that's when we realized that our inquiry points weren't inqeuiry points - they were - student qeustions! So we quickly changed our student questions which we thought they were inquiry points to real lovely inquiry points. Then we concentrated in our performences. After that, we found topics that we are actually going to talk in front of the parents, because, 28 children can't talk about the same thing over and over again. And we now are researching and researching into the deapth of our topic. We are also making charts and models. But that's not all, we were always taking action for the Earth. So now we are found here, at this time which is completely different from when we just started.
One more thing, I'd like to thank all the teachers who helped and guided us so nicely:
- Miss Poonam - for helping us so much by giving us ideas websites. She helped each one of us in the class. I really thank her.
- Mr. Joseph - for guiding us towards beautiful songs.
- Mr. Terrence - for helping us in our drama play.
- Miss Sabha & Shubba - for guiding the dancing students to a perfect end.
- Miss Prita - for helping us make good charts and posters.
- Miss Lakshmi - for guiding the students like Miss Poonam did.

only a few more days left!!!!!
The PYP exhibiton is so close by!!! We have all been working really, really really hard. These days we are only working on the PYP exhibiton. In other classes like art and english, we do stuff related to our topic too. Everyone has finally gotten serious about this. We have done alot so far.We have made posters and models. We are almost ready with plays and dances. and have done so much more!!!

Today we worked very hard on our musical and it is looking very good. With the help of Mr. Joseph and Mr.Terence all of the songs and lines have been learnt and the acting is really good. My powerpoint has been finished and I am working on my chart. It's only a few more days till the exhibition and everyone is working really hard.I am almost done with everything and we are almost there. I am very excited about the exhibition and I think it is going to be a great show.

Reflection on our field trip to Lal Bogh
Miss Roopa showed and told us about seven different trees: Peeple, Ficus Mysorensis, White Silk Cotton, Sita Ashoka, Sausage Tree, Chicken Pox Tree and Krishna’s Buttercup. In the notebook that Miss Roopa had given us, we wrote down the things we learnt and noticed about each tree, as well as how we will remember it and what we would name it. We even bark rubbed the Chicken Pox Tree so we could see the chicken pox-like buttons clearly on the paper.
Then we played a game where we were in groups of 5 or 6 and searched for names of countries that some trees came from. The team which gets the most wins. The team who won got 17 countries.
We also smelled Leaves that smelled like lemon and mint on our way. After a while we sat down and in total silence, we wrote what we heard: Cicada (insect that makes noise by rubbing its legs together), music, people talking & laughing, horns of cars, birds singing, airplanes, wind and people’s footsteps.
Next, we saw a banyan tree that strangled another tree by going around it. Then everybody started to ask for Miss Roopa’s autograph.
We went to an enormous tree and everybody climbed up and down. That was really fun. After enough playtimes, we all grouped together on the tree and Miss Roopa, our class teachers, and us talked about how global warming is connected to trees and nature. Then we went home.

Field Trip to Lalbagh
We looked at different trees and wrote down several things about the tree in our nature notebooks we got. All the trees we saw were very unique and unusual in their own ways. There was a Cypress Garden, the story behind the Cypress Garden was that Tipu Sultan(son of Hyder Ali) used to ask people to bring to him lots of different plants and trees from different parts of the world to plant in LalBagh.
We went to that garden and were asked to get in to groups of 5, we went around the Cypress Garden and looked for the contries name from which the plant was from. There was lots of places like: China, Africa, Malaysia, Japan, Mexico etc.
We went to LalBagh to see all the plants and trees in terms of how they protect our Earth from Global Warming. Overall I liked the field trip and it was intresting to learn about how trees protect our Earth and not only that we got to learn about all the different trees that grow in the world.

grade 5's feild trip to lalbagh
eco-friendly bags with pouchs and nature notebooks. we sat on a enourmous rock which used to be a volcnao and talked to our guide about plants. this got kind of boring at times so i just talked to ruchi. finally we started exploring the different trees in lalbagh. we noted down stuf in our notebooks. i was alergic to some trees in lalbagh and i felt sick so i did not participate to much. i just stayed with ms.mohua. at the end we got to climb a huge tree:the biggest in lal bagh. the nurse who accompanied us told me not too because i might be allergic but it looked really fun so i climed it anyway. then our guide made us reflect. it was really boring. the trip was ok. i liked the bus ride better.

pyp exhibition: the begining
- polltuion and global warming
- drugs
- save the animals
i am in the pollution and global warming group. our central idea is: 'global warming is a serious threat to the earth and it is our responsibility to stop pollution in order to prevent global warming and save our planet.' in our classroom since there were lots of people in my group we split up into three other groups. i am in a group with zoish, alex, jere, faizan and shahajii.
preparing for the exibition is hard work, but really fun too!!

The Math Exhibition
The day was about to come and all of us were putting the tables into there places. But Teju and I got separated because Nikita needed a lot of help so Teju went to her group and me alone. But somehow I was happy to be able to manage talking about a topic alone. And I had to seat next to Ricky and Nicolas who were talking about “how to make tangram DESIGNS”.
The PYP had the math exhibition on Wednesday 19th March 2008 from prep 1 to grade 5. Our grade talked about all kinds of things we learnt in math: large numbers, tangrams, graphs, coordinates, number patterns, transformations, and much, much more.
I told the customers what tangrams were and I showed them how to make tangram pieces, then I passed the pieces to my classmates and they showed the people how to make different shapes out of it.
I really liked the math exhibition because I had a lot of fun and my throat didn’t hurt like on the day of the science exhibition which is one of the reasons why I liked the math exhibition better and the other reason is because we knew exactly what other people were talking about.

The Science Exhibition
Our topic was “Space”. I was to talk about the presentation that my father made for grade 5. The evening before, I asked my dad how to present it the way he did. So he thought me.
We were preparing in the morning and after lunch, we went to see other classes. I first went to my brother’s class (grade 1). Their topic was about light. My brother spoke about the reflection of light. Then we went to see grade 2. Their topic was about chemical experiences. After grade 2 finished their presentation, they all sang a song to us. We then went to grade 3, then 4 and finally it was our turn. Everybody in grade 5 was exited, including me. All the other grades came to watch our presentation. Each time when my turn came, I tried to explain my PPT as interesting as possible. Not many people came to our class because most of them were too young to understand.
The day ended and we just waited till tomorrow comes. Tomorrow came and I was so exited that the energy in me wanted to pop out. Today was the 2nd day of the science exhibition. The day for parents to come. The parents came from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. My throat started hurting from 11 o’clock, because I talked to lots of parents. Luckily it was the time when break started, so I went out, drank water, and ate my snack. So my throat felt better. Then my mum came at 11:45. I talked to her in my best voice and in the most interesting way I could talk because I didn’t want her to be disappointed with me. Time went on fast and soon, science exhibition was over. I was really proud of myself.
It was over and my brother took pictures of me, my friends and Ms. Poonam. I went home feeling proud and happy.

Our field trip
In the museum, we saw many fun experiments. We saw a ball trapped in an invisible box and flying because of the strong air, a magnet in the water that can be moved by another magnet outside, a jet-flying airplane, satellites orbiting a globe, models of satellites, news paper about space, how much we weigh on each planet in the solar system, we answered quizzes from computers, ourselves on TV and win in games from there, and MUCH MUCH more.
Then we had lunch and went to the Planetarium. We saw a movie about space. Most of it was about what we already know but some parts were knew for me like, the planets are leftovers from the Nebula that formed the sun, people thought that the Earth was in the middle of our solar system, and MUCH MUCH more. Then we went back to school and took the bus to go home. I had so much fun today with my classmates.

3. Venus- Shreya
4. Earth- Ruchi
5. Mars- Sacha
6. Jupiter- Hugo
7. Saturn- Nihal
8. Uranus- Tejaswini
9. Neptune- Nayantara
10. Pluto- Karan
I think the play was good! The people who didn’t get roles got to be humans or were given speaking roles. After that was Ana was speaking about the technological advancements in space exploration. They were all written by me!!!! I was next with benefits of space exploration. I made a PPT on this with pictures so it would be easier to understand what I was saying. After me the 5B kids took care of the show. They had something planning a mission to Saturn and a presentation about the moon. No offence to 5B but I think our part of the show was better.

advancements in space exploration
ü Before humans could only look up there and admire the sky. Now we are building hotels outside Earth!
ü First humans had to take loads of food with them to space. Now astronauts can remain healthy with one tiny capsule!
ü First astronauts just spent a few minutes in space. Now they spend months there!
ü Before it was just animals and robots that went into space because humans were not brave enough. Now humans are sure of what they are doing and they go up.
ü First the space suits and oxygen supplies were not so good so we could not stay in space for very long. Now are equipment is so good we stay in space for long periods without dying or something.
ü First the space ships could only be used once and than thrown away wasting lots of hard-earned money. Now we can use them over and over again.
ü Before space travel was really risky. Now nobody is really scared of space travel.
ü Before people thought the sun orbited the earth. Now we know that all planets in the solar system orbit our sun.
ü First nobody new about the other planets. Now we know all about them.
ü First the telescopes were not to strong and you hardly could see anything clearly because of the atmosphere. Now we can see other galaxies with the Hubble space telescope.
ü First it was just USA and Russia in the space race. Now its all kinds of countries working together.
There are so many advances we have made in space exploration!

interesting news about space
Þ Mercury is shrinking! Scientists have proved this because of the creases on the surface. I think that it is weird because the universe is expanding not decreasing. Maybe if Mercury gets any smaller it would have to be declared not a planet just like Pluto!
Þ India is sending a lunar module to the moon called the ‘Chandrayann1’which will orbit the moon for a while and then land on it. It will launch around April this year.
Þ China is sending a space craft too. It is called ‘chang1’. I am glad that now it is not only countries like Russia and USA sending things to space, now even developing countries like India.
Þ Mysterious metallic Mercury actually has ice! According to me Mercury is a weird planet.
Þ There was an asteroid that flew past earth recently. Another asteroid that just passed Mars might hit earth!
Þ An American spy satellite might hit the Earth. It is most likely to hit an ocean. I hope it doesn’t cause any damage!
Þ A weird woman was found on Mars. Later I found out it was just a rock.
Þ People start planning, designing and building the Virgin Galactic. The world’s first commercial space craft!
I hope I find out more interesting news like this!

By Rhea Aurora
There are many benefits to space exploration. Findings and advances in space technology have had an amazing effect on things back on earth. For example,
Þ They are finding out cures for cancer patients.
Þ People who don’t want glasses but can not see without them can use contact lenses.
Þ Can make operations less painful with lasers so they don’t have to cut up the whole body when they are only fixing one part.
Þ Big advancements in the medical fields.
Þ We will have extremely accurate clocks which will even tell you the .0000000000000001 of a second!
Þ Computer barcodes, alarm systems, smoke detectors and other safety devices had first been used with NASA technology.
Þ Some experiments are easier to do in space then on earth so scientists do them there discovering both what they wanted to know and some other new awesome facts.
Þ We might not even have our favorite videogames!
Þ Some special material discovered in space is used for sports equipment like tennis rackets.
Þ Some great strong, light-weight fabric material is so sturdy it can be used for so many things from building to clothes to blankets.
Some people wonder if it is worth all that money to go up there. I think it is because we are finding so much! We can’t just stay in our cradle (earth) forever. We need to get out and explore the amazing things beyond our earth. In my opinion space exploration is very important and we should continue space exploration.

all about asteroids
1.Asteroids are chunks of space rock which are leftovers from the nebula(the birth of stars).
2.Asteroids don't just float around in space, most of them are orbiting the sun in a huge ring in between Mars and Jupiter's orbit.this is called the asteroid belt.
3.The name 'Asteroid' is the Greek word for star like.asteroids can also be called minor planets or planetoids (planet like).
4.The largest asteroid ever found so far is called Ceres , it has a 1000km diameter .Most asteroids are usually around 100km. the smallest asteroid is 1993Ka2,it is barely 5m across!
FUN FACTS!
- Some asteroids orbit other asteroids!
- Some asteroids have there own moons
- If all the asteroids in our solar system were put together it would be less than a third of the moon!(1/3)
- The weight of all the asteroids in the solar system would be 1000 times less than earth!
- The 2 moons of mars , Deimos and Phobos are not round like our moon ,they are more like baked potatos! People think they may be asteroids trapped in mars' power!

WHAT I LEARNT ABOUT SPACE
- I learnt about all the planets (including their diameter, order from the sun, how big they are, interesting features etc.)
- I also learnt that if cockroaches go up into space and breed the baby will become a different color than there parents because of the lack of gravity.
- Another fact I learnt is that even though Mercury is closer to the sun than Venus, Venus is still hotter because Venus has clouds that trap the heat inside them.
- I also learnt that "Sputnik 1" wasn't the first thing to go into space, it was actually a small rocket that wasn't meant to go into space which was about 40-50 years before "Sputnik 1".
- I also learnt about black holes (how big they can become, what kinds of black holes exist, what is the cause of a black hole etc.)
- Another thing I learnt was asteroids (how big they can become, what they are made out of etc.)
- Another thing I learnt about is meteoroids (how big they can become, other names for meteoroids, that once they hit a planet's surface they are known as meteorites etc.)
- I learnt about the 1st people to go up into space.
- I learnt about Neil Armstrong and his crew and there trip as the 1st people to walk on the moon.
- I learnt about our moon and its looks in the sky.
- I learnt that there was water found on Mars and that there might be life (or had life) on Mars.
- I learnt that there is an asteroid that was supposed to hit Mars but it missed so it might crash into Earth soon (I'm scared!)
- I learnt that they sent a probe to land on Mars' ice caps and will see if the water is healthy enough for life.
- I learnt that India is going to send a satellite "Chandrayaan" (which means Lunar Vehicle in Hindi) to orbit the moon and eventually crash onto its surface.
- I learnt that China is going to send something called "Chang 1" into space.
- I learnt that if you weigh 100kg on Earth that you will weigh 106.4kg on Saturn.
- Another thing I learnt is disasters that occurred in space such as: Apollo 1, Columbia etc.
- Another thing I learnt is Saturn's atmosphere, Saturn's gases, which god Saturn is named after etc.
- I learnt that Saturn has 7 main rings and that they can be 20 metres thick.
- I leant that Mars' 2 moons are actually asteroids cought in its gravitational pull.
- I learnt that Pluto isn't a planet anymore, but it is actually a dwarf planet.
- I learnt that "Sputnik 1" was actually 2 inches tall!
- And I learnt that space shutles can be used more than once unlike rockets.
